CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (19-3) is set to host its final home tournament of the year at St. John Stadium this weekend at the Beach Chicken Brawl, March 10-12.
The Chanticleers are on a four-game win streak after defeating Charleston 2-0 on Monday and beating Campbell 3-0 on Wednesday, putting them in top form to face Canisius, Houston Christian, and Ohio State at the three-day event.
Scouting the Opponents
Canisius
- The Golden Griffins are 7-5 overall on the season and are on a two-game losing streak after dropping back-to-back games against the Lehigh Hawks last weekend.
- Canisius has posted a 2-2 record on the road and has gone 5-3 in neutral games this season.
- Sophomore Saige Alfara leads the team with a .378 batting average and has scored five runs while recording a pair of doubles and two RBIs.
Houston Christian
- The Huskies are sitting on a 9-10 overall record and have lost their previous two contests. One of those losses came against UAlbany (3-4), who the Chanticleers defeated twice earlier in the season at scores of 14-0 and 10-2.
- Sophomore AB Garcia is atop the team with a .407 batting average and has scored 11 runs while going 10-for-11 on stolen-base attempts.
Ohio State
- Four of the Buckeyes hitters have a batting average over .350 and senior Mariah Rodriquez leads the team with a whopping .462 average.
- Allison Smith has posted a 3.50 ERA in the circle, logging an even 3-3 record while recording 41 strikeouts in her 36.0 innings of work.
- The Buckeyes are 6-6 on the season to date, tallying wins against three top 50 schools in Boise State (No. 42), Notre Dame (No. 43), and San Diego State (No. 39).
History Against
- The Chanticleers have only faced Houston Christian one time in their history back in head coach Kelley Green's first season when the Chants took a 17-0 victory in five innings.
- Coastal has a 1-2 all-time series record against the Golden Griffins and has lost the previous two encounters, however, these losses were served over 13 years ago.
- The Coastal Carolina softball team has a 1-3 overall record versus Ohio State, with its lone win coming in March 2006 at a score of 6-0.
