Coastal Carolina to Battle Vanderbilt on Wednesday

Women’s lacrosse to hit the road for three games starting on April 16

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will step out of ASUN Conference play to host the Vanderbilt Commodores on Wednesday, April 12, at Brooks Stadium on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
 
Coastal enters the contest at 8-4 overall and 2-1 in conference action after rebounding for an 18-3 victory over Delaware State in its last outing at home April 7.
 
The Commodores enter play at 3-9 on the year and are currently on a two-game skid.
 
COASTAL vs. Vanderbilt HISTORY
The Chanticleers trail in the all-time series 2-0. In the last meeting, Coastal Carolina fell 13-11 on the road to Vanderbilt in March 2022.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
The CCU offense is led by Kayla Downey (40 goals, 26 assists) with 66 points, while Avery McIlwaine (24 goals, 13 assists) ranks second with 37 points. Fellow Chants Sydney McClure (11 goals, 12 assists) and Avery Snyder (5 goals, 12 assists) are close behind with 23 and 23 points each. The offense has been ignited by Devin Rybacki and McIlwaine, as the duo has won 43 and 34 draw controls each.
 
Defensively, the Chants are anchored by their starting goalkeeper Claire Martell, who has started all 12 contests. The redshirt junior goalie has stopped 75 shots and allowed 89 goals in just over 518 minutes in the cage on the season. Gabrielle Beckett has forced 10 turnovers, while Martell has grabbed 23 groundballs to help return possession back to the offense.
 
ABOUT Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt is led by Nancy Halleron (18 goals, 4 assists), Bri Gross (15 goals, 4 assists), and Paige Finneran (13 goals, 4 assists) with 22, 19, and 17 points, respectively. Lila Huddles (9 goals, 5 assists), Kemper Robinson (11 goals, 3 assist), Molly Finlay (9 goals, 4 assists), and Ellie Hilsabeck (5 goals, 7 assists) have also all tallied doublt-digit points on the year. Gross often gets the offense started by winning 29 draw controls for the Commodores to lead the team.
 
Defensively, Paige Gunning has started all 12 games in goal, while making 96 saves and allowing 140 goals. Taylor Sampone and Gunning lead Vandy with 14 and 13 caused turnovers each, while Gunning has scooped up a team-high 47 groundballs.
