Chants Thrive in NCAA Statistical Rankings

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (30-14, 7-8 Sun Belt) is currently ranked 63rd in the NCAA RPI rankings and has seven Chanticleers listed in the top 100 individual rankings.
As a team, the Chants rank top 60 in the nation in 10 different categories:
Raelee Brabham has been hitting the mark in the circle and has been able to power through hitters at the plate with her strikeout ability. She ranks tied for 28th in total strikeouts (149), 22nd in strikeouts per seven innings (9.8), 69th with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.51, and tied for 27th with three saves on the season.
Sophomore Nicolette Picone has held onto her number two spot in the NCAA with six saves on the year and ranks 72nd in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.3), 84th in ERA (1.94), and 82nd in walks allowed per seven innings (1.46).
The CCU pitching staff goes deep with Mady Volpe also making an appearance in the NCAA pitching rankings. Volpe places 74th in hits allowed per seven innings (5.11) and 85th in strikeouts per seven innings (7.6).
When looking at the offense, Diamond Williams leads the way featuring in eight statistical ranking categories. She places 46th in hits (51), tied for 33rd in home runs (12), tied for 55th in home runs per game (1.18), 81st in RBIs per game (.90), 76th in runs per game (.88), 82nd in SAC flies (3), 88th in slugging percentage (.703), and 19th in total bases (97).
Freshman Delaney Keith has also made a dent in the NCAA rankings, recording 12 doubles, nine home runs, and 88 total bases which rank her tied for 24th, 77th, and 39th, respectively.
Indya Smith has been at the brunt of some wayward pitching this season as she ranks 92nd in the NCAA after being hit by a pitch nine times.
Lastly, graduate student Abbey Montoya has been able to use delicate hands to record 0.16 SAC bunts per game, which places her 82nd in the nation.
The Chanticleers will hit the road for a three-game SBC series versus Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Miss this weekend, April 21-23.
