Coastal Softball Welcomes CofC for Midweek Non-Conference Contest

First pitch is at 4 p.m. ET

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (32-15, 9-9 Sun Belt) will welcome the College of Charleston (17-27, 9-9 CCA) to St. John Stadium on Tuesday for a midweek non-conference contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET.

Lookin' Back
  • The Chants are coming off the back of a 2-1 Sun Belt series win over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
  • CCU took an early lead in the series after downing the Golden Eagles 4-1 in the opening game with the help of an Abbey Montoya RBI single, a two-run double from Diamond Williams, and a sacrifice fly by Maddy Jennings.
  • Coastal ran away with the series during game two on Saturday when they downed Southern Miss 5-3.
  • The Golden Eagles were able to save face on Sunday when they took the third game of the series 3-2.
  • Montoya was on top form at the plate last weekend, posting a .750 batting average while recording three RBIs and one run.
  • Sophomore Nicolette Picone picked up her seventh and eighth saves of the season on Friday and Saturday and refused to give up a single run in both of the matchups.
  • Keirstin Roose was the only other Chanticleer to have a batting average over .300 last weekend. The junior scored three runs and drove in two RBIs while going 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts.

Scouting the Opponent
  • CofC has posted a 17-27 overall record on the season to date.
  • The Cougars are currently sitting on a three-game losing streak after suffering a series sweep versus N.C. A&T this past weekend.
  • CofC is currently ranked sixth in the Colonial Athletic Association, posting a 9-9 conference record.
  • In CCU's last contest against CofC, the Cougars were only able to register two hits which came off the bats of Karlee Hughes and Malaka Belser.
  • Junior Aniz Roman is atop of the team with a .308 batting average and has recorded 10 doubles, one triple, one home run, and seven RBIs on the season.
  • The Cougars have switched between two starting pitchers throughout the year and each has thrown over 100 innings of work. Senior Payton Lemire leads the team with a 3.02 ERA and has struck out 94 hitters to date while freshman Caroline Conner has a 3.28 ERA and is just behind with 89 strikeouts on the season.

History Against
  • The Chants have a long-standing history with the College of Charleston dating back 34 years.
  • Coastal has a 50-25 all-time series record versus the Cougars and has won eight of its last 10 contests.
  • Head Coach Kelley Green will be looking to add to her 10-9 record versus CofC.
  • This will be Coastal's second encounter with the Cougars this season after taking a 2-0 victory back in March.
  • In the last matchup, Raelee Brabham pitched her second complete game shutout of the year and freshman Delaney Keith hammered a home run over the right-field wall to aid in Coastal's 2-0 win.
