Coastal Softball Ready for Final Home Series of the Season

Chants face their first top-25 team of the season

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (33-15, 9-9 Sun Belt) is ready for its final home series of the season against the No. 25 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (36-13, 16-2 Sun Belt) at St. John Stadium, April 28-30.
 
Senior Recognition Lookin' Back
  • The Chants added to their 24-8 home record when they downed the College of Charleston 5-3 in their last non-conference game at St. John Stadium on Tuesday.
  • Transfer senior Indya Smith smashed a career-high two doubles against the Cougars, one of which drove in two runs to give CCU a 5-1 lead.
  • Freshman Delaney Keith crushed her 14th double of the season, which ranks her 18th in the NCAA.
  • Raelee Brabham picked up her fourth save of the season entering the circle in the bottom of the seventh inning to strike out the final three hitters to secure the win.
  • CCU picked up its second win of the season when being outhit by its opponents against CofC on Tuesday.
Scouting the Opponent
  • Louisiana has a 36-13 overall record and leads the conference with a 16-2 Sun Belt record, suffering losses to App State (March 25) and Troy (April 21).
  • The Ragin' Cajuns have won all six of their conference series this year, which include wins over Southern Miss, App State, James Madison, South Alabama, Texas State, and Troy.
  • LA is currently ranked No. 25 in the nation in the USA Softball Rankings.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns have played 11 nationally-ranked teams in the top-25 this year and have a 3-8 record.
  • Louisiana is one of the top teams in the country and ranks 35th in batting average (.307), 28th in ERA (2.20), 15th in home runs per game (1.29), 13th in shutouts (15), 21st in slugging percentage (.515), and 25th in win/lose percentage (.735).
  • Meghan Schorman and Sam Landry lead the pitching staff for the Ragin' Cajuns, each recording over 110 strikeouts on the season while posting 1.85 and 2.12 ERAs, respectively.
  • Laney Credeur is atop of the team, recording a .421 batting average, seven home runs, and 21 RBIs on the year.
  • Five players on the Ragin' Cajuns squad have earned Sun Belt Player or Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
History Against
  • CCU has a 2-19 all-time series record versus the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.
  • The Chants have won just one of their last 10 matchups versus Louisiana.
  • Coastal's last win against LA came back in March 2020 when the Chants took a 7-1 win against the then-ranked No. 8 team in the nation. De Jesus played a part in this win, smashing a solo home run to give CCU a 3-1 lead.
  • Each of CCU's victories versus Louisiana have come at home at St. John Stadium.
  • CCU is yet to win a conference series against LA and the Ragin' Cajuns has held the Chants to three runs or less in 18 of their 21 contests.
