Seven Chants Qualify for NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville

Glasco, Sweeney, and Clemens headline the group
CONWAY, S.C. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced the qualifiers for the NCAA Regional Preliminaries, with seven Chanticleers earning a spot in the NCAA East Regional, which be held in Jacksonville, Fla., from May 24-27.
Sophomore Alexis Glasco qualified for the 100-meters and 100-meter hurdles, with junior Kayla Sweeney qualifying for the 100 and 200-meters, and junior Sydney Clemens qualifying for the 100-meter hurdles.
The trio will be joined by sophomore Amanda Kinloch as part of the 4x100-meter relay, with sophomore Camryn Lorick and junior Lauren Gordon serving as alternates. Lorick will also compete in the high jump event.
On the men's side, junior Braydon Bennett qualified for the 110-meter hurdles.
The Chants will compete for a chance to qualify for the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held June 8-10 in Austin, Texas. Below is more information on the Coastal qualifiers and the 2023 NCAA East Regional.
Alexis Glasco – 100-meters / 100-meter hurdles
The Sun Belt Conference Champion in the 100-meter hurdles and All-Sun Belt first-team selection, Glasco qualified for both the 100-meters and the 100-meter hurdles events.
Winning the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.06 (+3.4), Glasco has the fastest time in the Sun Belt this season in the event at 12.83 (+3.2).
On top of winning the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles, Glasco raced to a runner-up finish with a personal-best time of 11.29 (+0.9) in the 100-meter finals at the conference championships meet and has the fifth-best mark in the conference on the outdoor season at 23.43 (+3.2).
Kayla Sweeney – 100-meters / 200-meters
Earning All-Sun Belt second-team honors as part of the 4x100-meter relay runner-up unit, Sweeney also posted a pair of top-five finishes in the 100 and 200-meter events at the SBC Championships.
Sweeney finished fourth overall with her personal-best time of 11.42 (+0.9) in the 100-meters at the conference meet, clocking the third-fastest in CCU history. Her season-best mark of 11.28 (+2.3) at the East Coast Relays is the fastest time in the Sun Belt this spring.
The junior recorded her second individual top-five finish at the championships with a fourth-place showing in the 200-meters with a time of 23.41 (+3.2). Her mark of 23.41 (+1.2) also at the East Coast Relays is the fourth-best in the conference.
Sydney Clemens – 100-meter hurdles
Qualifying for the 100-meter hurdles along with Glasco, Clemens placed fourth overall in the sprint hurdles event with her time of 13.40 (+3.4) in the final heat at the Sun Belt Championships. Her time of 13.19 (+2.4) is the third-fastest this season. She also earned All-Sun Belt second-team honors as part of the 4x100-meter relay team.
Camryn Lorick – High Jump
Lorick is the lone field student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA East Regional for the Chants this season, as the sophomore has the fifth-best mark in the high jump event this season in the Sun Belt Conference at 1.75 meters.
At the Sun Belt Championship meet, she placed in a tie for seventh overall with her high-mark of 1.65 meters.
Braydon Bennett – 110-meter hurdles
Bennett quailed for the 110-meter hurdles, as the junior picked up All-Sun Belt second-team honors for his runner-up finish at the SBC Championships with a new personal-best time of 13.84 (+1.3). His mark is the third-fastest in CCU history and the fifth-fastest in the Sun Belt Conference this outdoor season.
4x100-Meter Relay
On top of the individual qualifiers, the quartet of Clemens, Glasco, Kinloch, and Sweeney qualified for the East Regional meet, as they finished second overall in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.61.
The four Chants have the best time in the Sun Belt Conference this season at 44.10, posted at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational.
Lorick and Gordon will serve as alternates for the relay event.
