CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (33-18, 9-12 Sun Belt) will hit the road for its last regular season three-game Sun Belt Conference series versus the Appalachian State Mountaineers (22-6, 3-16 Sun Belt), May 4-6, in Boone N.C.
Lookin' Back
- The Chants wrapped up their home schedule last weekend at St. John Stadium, suffering a 3-0 Sun Belt Conference series loss to the No. 25 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.
- LA held CCU to just one run and one hit throughout the first two games of the series.
- Coastal put up a strong fight in game three of the series, rallying back from a 5-0 deficit to tie up the game at the end of the first inning but ultimately fell short 10-6.
- Seven different Chants recorded a hit in game three versus LA.
- Raelee Brabham recorded her eighth complete game of the season in CCU's 2-1 loss in game two to the Cajuns. The senior gave up just one earned run in the loss and pitched five-straight scoreless innings.
- Despite dropping the series, it was not all doom and gloom for the Chants last week, as they picked up a 5-3 non-conference win over the College of Charleston (April 25).
Scouting the Opponent
- App State has a 22-26 overall record on the season and is 3-16 in Sun Belt Conference play, which ranks them last in the conference.
- The Mountaineers have won just one Sun Belt series this season, a 2-1 win over Georgia State (April 21-23).
- App State's other conference win came in game three against the then-No. 23 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (March 25), the Mountaineers' first win over a ranked opponent in program history.
- Last weekend, App State suffered a 3-0 sweep to the James Madison Dukes, which included a 2-0 shutout loss in game one.
- Kayt Houston leads the Mountaineers' offense with a .385 batting average. The junior has made her mark in the Sun Belt rankings, as she is fourth in hits (60), sixth in batting average and on-base percentage (.467), and eighth in doubles (12).
- Sajal Neas (8-8), Kaylie Northrop (8-8), and Delani Buckner (5-8) have all been in the pitching rotation for the Mountaineers. Neas leads the way with a 3.21 ERA, but Northrop is atop of the team with 89 strikeouts.
History Against
- CCU has a 21-7 overall record against the App State Mountaineers.
- The Chants have dominated in their last 10 matchups going 8-2.
- Coastal has a 4-2 record on the road to the Mountaineers and edged its last away series 2-1 in May 2021.
- The last time the Chants faced App State was in an elimination game in the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament, where CCU took a 3-2 win. Junior Riley Zana assisted in the win when she crushed an RBI double to put Coastal up 3-1.
- The Chants have never lost a three-game series to the Mountaineers.
- Head coach Kelley Green has posted a 15-3 overall record versus App State.
