Gardner Named to Nevada’s 2023 Hall of Fame Class

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina softball associate head coach Michelle Gardner was announced as one of five members who will be inducted into Nevada's 2023 Hall of Fame class this October.
Gardner will be inducted alongside Joel Bitonio (Football; 2009-13), Dick Dorworth (Skiing; 1958-62), JaVale McGee (Men's Basketball; 2006-08), and Mengjiao Mi (Women's Swimming & Diving; 2009-13).
During her six seasons as the head coach of the Nevada softball team (2003-08), Gardner went 187-176 overall and 60-56 in WAC play while leading the team to six consecutive 20-plus win seasons.
Gardner coached 34 Academic All-WAC selections, 21 WAC Players of the Week, 13 preseason All-WAC selections, 21 postseason All-WAC honorees, eight WAC All-Tournament selections, three NFCA All-West Region honorees, one WAC Tournament MVP, and the 2008 WAC Player of the Year, Vanessa Briones, during her tenure at Nevada.
The 2008 WAC Coach of the Year made her mark in the Wolf Pack history books after leading the team to its first WAC Tournament Championship title and first NCAA Regional appearance in 2006. She repeated this in feat 2008 when she secured the program's first WAC regular-season title, posting a school-best 44-18 overall record while going 16-2 in conference play.
"It is such a special honor and I greatly appreciate being inducted," stated Gardner. "I cannot thank my former administration, staff, and players who helped make this possible and I look forward to being back in Reno to celebrate with my family!"
