CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's cross country teams hosted their annual Chanticleer Challenge today at the Hackler Golf Course in Conway, S.C.
In the women's 5k meet, the Chanticleers beat out UNC Wilmington, Campbell, and Francis Marion for the top spot, coming in with an average time of 18:44.
The Lady Chants finished with each of the top three runners, with senior Molly Jones finishing first at 17:10, redshirt junior Ellie Wolski in second at 18:07, and junior Amilia Wise-Sweat in third at 18:48.
With her first place finish and field-leading 22 individual points, Jones set a new course record with her 17:10 time.
It's the second time this season Jones and Wolski have claimed the top two spots, with both finishing atop the leaderboard in the fall opener in the women's 4k at the Buccaneer Open in Charleston, S.C.
Rounding out the field for Coastal, freshmen Erin McQuitty came in eighth with a 19:45 time, Olivia Goeser in 12th, Mary Kathryn Huddleston in 16th, and Katelyn Porter in 25th. Junior Tiarra Smith finished in 28th with a 21:50 time.
On the men's side, the Chants also took the top spot with an average time of 26:31, beating out UNC Wilmington, Campbell, The Citadel, and Francis Marion.
Individually, senior Nehemiah Cionelo crossed the finish line first at 25:30, claiming the first win of his collegiate career.
Freshmen Sterling Sellier and Adam Groves continued to make their mark in just their third event with the Chants, finishing third and fourth, respectively, with times of 25:58 and 26:24.
Rounding out the men's leaderboard, George Werner Jr. came in sixth, Jackson Brungart in 21st, Sean Clegg in 23rd, and Jack Benoit in 30th.
Up next, the Chants will head to Spartanburg, S.C., for the Upstate Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14, starting at 9 a.m. ET.
