Taylor, Bennink each shoot a five-under 139
BARK RIVER, Mich. – The Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team shot a three-under 573 in the first two rounds of the Island Resort Intercollegiate on Sunday at the Sage Run Golf Course to finish the first day of competition in eighth place.
Seth Taylor and Connor Bennink each shot a five-under 139 on the opening day and stand tied for 11th after the opening 36 holes. Each player shot a two-under 70 in the opening nine holes followed by a three-under 69 in the afternoon round.
Jack Lee, playing his first event as a Chanticleer, finished his day tied for 22nd after completing play with a two-under 141 (71-71). Owen Kim is tied for 35th with a one-over 145 (72-73).
Ludvig Erikson shot a three-over 147 (72-75), the same score as teammate Garrett Cooper (74-73). Freshman Brady Duval is tied for 53rd after carding a four-over 148 (72-76), while Trace McDonald is 64th with a seven-over 151 (74-77).
Michigan is leading the event with a 557 (284-273) as only 30 shots separate all 11 teams. Rounding out the top five teams are Illinois State (278-280-558), Miami (OH) with a 561 (285-276), host South Dakota State (282-280-562), and Boise State (276-287-563) and North Texas (287-276-563) tied for fifth.
St. Mary's (284-282-566) is just seven strokes in front of the Chants (285-288-573) while Bowling Green (282-294-576), Central Florida (287-289-576), and Ohio (296-291-587) round out the field.
Monday's action is scheduled to tee off at 9:00 a.m. ET.
