Taylor picks up a top-10 finish

BARK RIVER, Mich. – The Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team shot a four-under 860 to finish eighth at the Island Resort Intercollegiate. The Chants closed the two-day event with a one-under 287 in Monday's final round.

Seth Taylor picked up where he left off the 2022-23 season as he finished the event tied for seventh with a seven-under 209 (70-69-70) as the 2022 All-Sun Belt performer shot under par all three rounds.

Jack Lee finished his first event as a Chanticleer with a five-under 211 (71-71-69) and a tie for 11th. Like Taylor, the true freshman finished under-par for each of the three rounds.

Playing as an individual, Connor Bennink had a solid first tournament of the season with a three-round total of four-under 212 (70-69-73). Only a one-over 73 in Monday's action kept the super-senior from a three-round under-par finish.

Garrett Cooper shot an even-par 216 (74-73-69) over the three rounds, and improved his score each round, culminating with a three-under 69 in Monday's third and final round. He was tied for 29th at the event.

Other finishers for the Chants were Owen Kim with a four-over 220 (72-73-75), Ludvig Erikson with a 10-over 226 (72-75-79), Brady Duval at 12-over 228 (72-76-80), and Trace McDonald with a 13-over 229 (74-77-78).

Michigan led all three rounds of the event and finished with a 30-under 834 (284-273-277), just holding off Illinois State, which finished second with a 25-under 839 (278-280-281). Rounding out the top five were North Texas with a 16-under 848 (287-276-285), Miami (OH) with a 15-over 849 (285-276-288), and St. Mary's with a 13-over 851 (284-282-285).

Boise State was two shots out of the top-five with a 11-under 853 (276-287-290) and host South Dakota State finished just two strokes in front of the Chants with a six-under 858 (282-280-296) with CCU's four-under 860 (285-288-287) tied with Central Florida (287-289-284=860).

Finishing out the field were Bowling Green's seven-over 871 (282-294-295) and Ohio's 21-over 885 (296-291-298).

CCU will return to action at the Golfweek Challenge on Sept. 10-12 at the True Blue Golf Club in Pawleys Island, S.C.
