Coastal Softball to Face CofC in Midweek Matchup

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team will remain on the road to take on the College of Charleston Cougars in a midweek matchup on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET.

CHANTS LAST TIME OUT
  • Coastal dropped to 4-4 on the season after suffering four losses at the Spring Games in Leesburg, Fla., last weekend.
  • Coastal faced three Power Five opponents in Ohio State, Kansas, and Penn State, and were outscored 3-16.
  • The Chants also played ASUN opponent Liberty, falling 2-1 despite matching the Flames with six hits apiece.
  • Indya Smith knocked Coastal's lone extra-base hit on the weekend and Riley Zana led the team with a .556 batting average.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
  • The Cougars sit on a 3-4 record on the season.
  • CofC's three wins came against East Carolina (11-3), Saint Joseph's (5-3), and Sun Belt opponent Georgia Southern (5-1).
  • In the Cougars' last outing they suffered a 4-0 shutout loss to Loyola Chicago, where they were outhit 5-4.
  • Shealyn Starks leads the offense for CofC, posting a .417 batting average and recording four runs off10 hits while driving in three RBIs.
  • CofC has rotated between three pitchers in Payton Lemire, Caroline Conner, and McKenna Kelly to start the season with each pitching over 10 innings. Lemire tops the pitching staff with a 2.42 ERA while posting a 2-1 record in the circle.
  • Hallie Cannon has reached base in all seven contests on the year.
HISTORY AGAINST
  • Coastal has a 51-25 all-time record versus the Cougars.
  • The Chants have topped CofC in eight of their last 10 matchups while delivering three shutout wins.
  • CCU has a 25-13 road record versus the Cougars and has won its last four away contests.
  • The Chants have a five-game win streak and have outscored CofC 61-18 in their last 10 encounters.
  • In their last matchup, the Chants took a 5-3 victory with the help of an RBI double by Indya Smith and an RBI groundout by Keirstin Roose.
WE'RE STREAKING
  • Sophomore and leadoff batter Delaney Keith tops the team with a six-game hitting and reaching-base streak.
  • Riley Zana and Georgia Hood have reached base in each of the last four games while Zana also sits on a three-game hitting streak.
SMITH IN THE SUN BELT
  • Smith is Coastal's lone player in the top 10 of Sun Belt's offensive categories this week.
  • The centerfielder places seventh in the conference with a .750 slugging percentage and eighth with a 1.205 on-base + slugging percentage.
