CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team will host its second of four home tournaments this weekend, Feb. 23-25. The Chanticleers will welcome Furman, Bowling Green, and Power Five opponent Louisville to St. John Stadium.
CHANTS LAST TIME OUT
- CCU picked up a 5-0 shutout win over the College of Charleston Cougars.
- Both Delaney Keith and Ava Hampton recorded two hits apiece and Maddy Jennings tallied her second multi-RBI game of the year when she belted a two-run homer.
- Raelee Brabham pitched 5.0 scoreless innings and gave up just one hit in the circle.
- Freshman Abby Henderson made her second appearance in the circle as a Chant, pitching her first 1-2-3 inning and refusing to give up a hit in her 2.0 innings of work.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Louisville
- The Cardinals are 10-1 on the year with their only loss coming against FAU, 6-3.
- Louisville is receiving votes for the second straight week on ESPN.com/USA Softball Coaches Poll
- The Cardinal pitching staff has recorded six shutout wins and has a 1.26 ERA through the first 11 games.
- Outfielder Paige Geraghty leads the team with a .353 batting average.
- Pitcher Sam Booe has made six appearances and has a 0.53 ERA, which leads the pitching staff.
Bowling Green
- Bowling Green is yet to take the field in the 2024 season.
- In 2023 the Falcons went 9-41 overall and 2-28 in Mid-American Conference play.
- The Falcons lost their leading batter and starting pitcher from 2023 but will return Peyton Dolejs, who ranked second on the team with 36 hits, 24 runs, and 14 RBIs.
- The Falcons added nine freshmen to their 2024 roster.
Furman
- Furman is 7-3 on the season, their best start since 2018.
- The team has an ERA of 2.48 and a .279 batting average through the first 10 games.
- Hannah Poole and Ashlee Lykins both lead the Paladins with a .364 batting average.
- Junior pitcher Emme Buzhardt leads the nation with five saves in six appearances out of Furman's bullpen.
- Junior pitcher Lauralee Scott is 2-0 in the circle with a 1.20 ERA.
HISTORY AGAINST
Louisville
- This is CCU's first match-up against the Louisville Cardinals
- Coastal has a 31-79 record versus ACC opponents.
Bowling Green
- CCU has a 0-1 record versus the Falcons.
- Their lone encounter came in 2001 when the Falcons topped the Chants 2-6.
Furman
- The Chants are 12-11 against the Paladins.
- CCU's first match-up against Furman was in March 1983 when the Chants kicked off the series with a 6-2 win.
- Coastal will be looking to add to their 11-7 home record against the Paladins.
- Over their last 10 meetings, the Chants are 8-2.
