CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team will host the Chanticleer Showdown on Feb. 29 – March 3, at St. John Stadium. The Chants will welcome Iona, Oakland, Michigan State, and Yale to the Beach for their third home tournament of the season.

Due to forecasted inclement weather the Chanticleers have picked up an extra game versus Oakland tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET.

CHANTS LAST TIME OUT

• CCU went 2-1 at the Battle at the Beach picking up wins versus Furman and Bowling Green while falling short the Louisiana Cardinals.
• The Chants Riley Zana crushed a grand slam home run in CCU's 11-3 victory over Bowling Green.
• Ava Hampton and Livi Payne each cracked singles to tally their first RBIs of the year.
• Iylana De Jesus recorded three RBIs in back-to-back games versus Bowling Green and Furman.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Iona

• The Gaels are 1-3 on the year with their lone win coming against UAlbany 12-9
• Iona suffered a 7-0 shutout loss by Sun Belt opponent Appalachian State.
• Kayla Haywood tops the team with a .538 batting average recording seven hits and two RBIs on the season.

Oakland

• Oakland has a 4-1 record on the year.
• The Golden Grizzlies have picked up three wins over CofC and one over South Carolina State.
• Jen Krizka has a .563 batting average and has recorded nine RBIs on the season.

Michigan State

• Michigan State is 7-9 on the season.    
• The Spartans played one common opponent with the Chants in Campbell Michigan State downed the Camels 3-0 while the Chants won 2-0.
• Jaeya Butler leads the team with a .371 batting average, but Britain Beshears tops the team with 18 RBIs. Beshears 18 RBIs ranks her 26th in the nation.
• Liv Grey is atop of the team with a 2.15 ERA and a 5-4 record in the circle. The senior has recorded 61 strikeouts on the season which ranks her fifth in the NCAA.

Yale

• The Bulldogs are 1-4 on the season.
• Yale's only win came at the South Florida Showdown when they clipped Loyola University Chicago 8-7.
• The Bulldogs have suffered two shutout losses to the University of Washington and the University of South Florida and average just two runs a game.
• Willa Ferrer has a .417 and leads the team with one home run and two RBIs.

HISTORY AGAINST

Iona

• Coastal has a 1-0 series record versus Iona.
• CCU downed the Gaels 2-0 in their lone matchup in March 2020.

Oakland

·       CCU has a 1-0 record versus Oakland.

·       Their only matchup came in March 2010 when the Chants took a 3-2 win.

Michigan State

• The Chants are 2-3 against Michigan State
• Their first meeting came in March 1995 when the Chants suffered a 3-0 shutout loss.
• CCU has an even 1-1 record at home versus the Spartans.
• The Chants have been outscored 31-20 over their five encounters.

Yale

• CCU is 1-1 all-time versus Yale.
• Their two encounters came during a doubleheader in March 1993. The Chants picked up a 1-0 win in game one and a 2-3 loss in game two.
