Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. – The Coastal Carolina softball team suffered a 13-0 shutout loss to the No. 21/23 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette, La., on Saturday.
With the loss, the Chants fall to 1-4 in Sun Belt play while Louisiana remains undefeated at 4-0.
The Ragin' Cajuns asserted themselves in the bottom of the first inning, scoring runs on a fielder's choice, a stolen base, two RBI singles, and a ground out to make the score 5-0.
Louisiana added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning after a fielder's choice and back-to-back singles loaded the bases. Brooke Ellestad then ripped a two-run single down the left-field line to increase the deficit to 7-0.
The Chants looked to get on the board in the top of the third inning when Clara Hudgens and Libby Pippen opened the inning with two consecutive singles. However, the Ragin' Cajuns secured a fly-out and a double play to extinguish the threat.
Louisiana's bats exploded in the bottom of the fourth inning adding six runs on two homers and two RBI singles to ultimately give the Ragin' Cajuns the 13-0 run-rule victory.
Georgia Hood took her first loss in the circle, allowing five runs, three hits, and three walks in her 0.1 inning of work.
The Chanticleers will face Louisiana in the final game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET.
