Chants Take on South Alabama and Southern Miss in Sun Belt Double Feature

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team (8-6, 2-2 SBC) returns home this weekend for a Sun Belt Conference double feature against the South Alabama Jaguars (10-3, 3-1 SBC) and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (4-8, 0-4 SBC) at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The Chants are coming off a 4-3 loss to Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. on Monday, Mar. 25, moving their conference record to 2-2 on the year. The opening doubles point went to the Eagles by securing the No. 1 and No. 2 matchups. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished with Nicole Abel and Brooke Rogers leading Mackenzie Leopold and Sophie Wagemaker 5-3.
In singles, the Chants took the third, fourth and fifth seeded matches with seniors Jesse Hollins, Kata Foldeak and Cécile Morin coming away with Hollins and Foldeak each winning by scores of 6-2, 6-3 and Morin taking down Leopold 3-6, 6-2, 10-6. Hollins has now extended her singles winning streak to seven with today's win, while also moving her record across doubles and singles to 10-2 over the last three and a half weeks of play. Foldeak has won six of her last seven singles outings, giving her a total of eight for the season.
South Alabama enters the weekend at 10-3 on the season and in fourth in the Sun Belt Conference standings, behind App State, Marshall and first-place Old Dominion, at 3-1. The Jaguars' previous outing was a 4-0 win over No. 67 Tulane, giving USA their sixth win in their last seven matches dating back to Feb. 24.
Southern Miss travels to Conway on the back of a four-match losing streak to open conference play, most recently to Georgia State in a 4-2 loss in Atlanta.
CCU vs. South Alabama will start at 10 A.M. ET on Friday, Mar. 29, and CCU vs. Southern Miss will start at 10 A.M. ET on Saturday, Mar. 30 at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
