CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team beat the Appalachian State Mountaineers 3-1 on Sunday to clinch the Sun Belt Conference series at St. John Stadium.

With the win, the Chants improve to 27-17, 7-8 Sun Belt, while App State falls to 16-21 and 4-11 in league play.

The Mountaineers hit the ground running in the top of the first inning when Kayt Houston smashed a solo home run over the centerfield wall to give App State a 1-0 lead.

Coastal responded in the bottom of the third frame when Riley Zana laced a two-run double to left field to put CCU up 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Georgia Hood extended Coastal's lead to 3-1 when she crushed an RBI double to right-center field to drive in pinch runner Jay Wrightsman.

Nicolette Picone entered the circle in the top of the fifth inning and pitched 3.0 perfect innings to pick up her sixth save of the season.

Fifth-year senior Raelee Brabham (19-8) took the win, allowing five hits and one run in her 4.0 innings of work.

The Chanticleers will hit the road on Wednesday to take on the Charlotte 49ers at 6 p.m. ET.
