POINT CLEAR, Ala. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team sits in ninth place at the Sun Belt Conference Championship after shooting a 19-over 307 Tuesday at the Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear, Ala., leaving the Chanticleers with a 25-over 601 (294-307).
Carolina Hortian was the low Chant on the day with a career-best even-par 72 (35-37) on the second day of action. The sophomore had three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars on her way to a two-day total of seven-over 151 (79-72) and is tied for 28th heading into the final round.
Hannah Karg continues to be the low scorer for the Chants as she is tied for third after shooting a four-over 76 in Tuesday's action. She has a one-over 145 (69-76) after two rounds.
Karg continues to be tied at the top of the par 3 scoring with a 2.88 scoring average and is tied for second in par 5 scoring with a 4.50 scoring average. Her three birdies in the second round give her eight for the tournament, which is tied for second-most in the field.
Sara Sarrion shot a six-over 78 in Tuesday's action and enters the final round tied for 26th with a six-over 150 (72-78). Sarrion eagled on the first hole in Monday's round and is tied for sixth in par 5 scoring with a 4.63 scoring average.
Luisa Gibson is tied for 40th with an 11-over 155 (74-81), while
Varatkarn Kunkaew is tied for 56th with an 18-over 162 (81-81). Gibson has a 3.00 scoring average on the par 3 holes, which is tied for fourth.
The weather conditions played havoc on Tuesday's scoring as none of the 12 teams was able to break par, and only three teams finished less than 10 strokes over par. One of those teams was Texas State, which moved into the lead after carding a six-over 294 and stands at five-over 581 to hold six-stroke lead over ULM (+11, 587), which led the championship after the first round. Georgia Southern is third at 13-over 589, while Old Dominion is fourth at 15-over 591.
Marshall made the biggest jump of the round, moving up four spots into fifth place after a round-best four-over 292. The Herd stands 17-over 593 moving into the third round.
Arkansas State (+18, 594) moved up three spots into sixth after shooting a five-over 293 in Tuesday's action. The Red Wolves lead Southern Miss (+22, 598) by four strokes and Georgia State (+23, 599) by five strokes. The Chants (+25, 601) is only two strokes back in ninth, followed by James Madison (+27, 603), Troy (+45, 621), Appalachian State (+49, 625), and South Alabama (+113, 689).
