Chants Fall 5-2 at Troy in Regular Season Finale

TROY, Ala. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team (13-8, 7-4 SBC) closed out its regular season schedule today with a 5-2 loss on the road against the Troy Trojans (15-6, 9-2 SBC) at the Lunsford Tennis Center in Troy, Ala.

The Trojans swept the doubles point to open the match after winning the first and second-seeded matches by scores of 6-4 and 6-2, respectively. The No. 3 seed match between CCU's Nicole Abel and Brooke Rogers and Troy's Leena Metwally and Hagar Ramadan-Amin was left unfinished with Troy leading 5-3.

The Chants took two singles points by winning in the No. 2 spot with Anna Babayan defeating Troy's Ramadan-Amin 6-2, 6-2 and in the No. 3 spot with Jesse Hollins besting the Trojan's Maria Guirguis 6-4, 6-2. Troy won the fifth and sixth-seeded matches in straight sets, moving the score to 3-2 heading into the final two pairings. In the No. 1 spot, Abel forced Troy's top seed Kristina Kukaras into a third set but lost 6-1 as the home side would clinch the match to go up 4-2. Senior Kata Foldeak lost to the No. 4 seed Valeriia Avdeeva 7-6, 7-5 in a close, hard-fought matchup in the match's final point.

With the regular season now in the books, the Chants will now prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament next week in Rome, Ga, starting on Wednesday, Apr. 24 at the Rome Tennis Center.
