Coastal Earns Fifth Seed in 2024 SBC Championship

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team (13-8, 7-4 SBC) earned the fifth seed in this week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Rome, Ga, per the announcement by the conference office this morning.Â
By finishing with the No. 5 seed, the Chants have earned a first-round bye and will take on the winner of the 12-13 seed matchup between Arkansas State and Southern Miss on Thursday at 10 A.M. ET.Â
Coastal enters postseason play as winners of five of their last seven, finishing the regular season with an overall record of 13-8 and a 7-4 record against conference opponents. In CCU's previous meetings with Arkansas State and Southern Miss this season, the Chants defeated the Red Wolves 6-1 on senior day on Apr. 7 and swept the Golden Eagles 7-0 on Mar. 30 at the Stevens Tennis Complex.Â
Arkansas State (8-14, 2-9 SBC) closed out the regular season with a 4-1 win over Southern Miss on senior day. Prior to the win over the Golden Eagles, the Red Wolves had lost eight consecutive matches in conference play, dropping them to 12th in the Sun Belt standings.Â
Southern Miss (4-14, 0-10 SBC) ended their regular season losing 10 consecutive conference matches, with their most recent win coming in a non-conference matchup against Alcorn State.Â
CCU vs. Arkansas State or Southern Miss is set to start at 10 A.M. ET at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.Â
