COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed in its fourth and final meet across the fall and spring seasons in Columbia, S.C. today in the USC Open at the Creeger Track.
On the women's side, the Chants completed the one-day event with 16 top-10 placements, including Olivia Goeser and Amanda Kinloch finishing atop the leaderboard in the women's 5000m and 100m hurdles preliminary events, respectively. Kinloch later finished fourth in the 100m hurdles final event with a time of 13:24.
Three Chants finished in second place with Lauralyn Clifford in the women's hammer throw, Camryn Lorick in the women's high jump and the 4x400m relay team finishing with a time of 3:43.40.
The men's team ended the day with 12 placements inside the top-10 of their respective events. CCU claimed two top-place finishes with the 4x400m relay team and freshman Skylor Griffiths securing first-place in the men's 4x400m relay and the men's high jump. Griffiths ended with a 2.06m final distance. Freshman Elliot Grayson placed second in the same event with a 2.00m distance.
With their top-place finish in the men's 4x400m relay, Brendan Kovar, Robert Johnson, Garrett Wilkins and Genson-Hooper Price broke a program record with a final time of 3:07.51.
The Chants also secured two other second-place finishes with George Werner Jr. in the men's 3000m steeplechase and Kovar, Deondre Hardy, Wilkins and Hooper-Price in the 4x100m relay. Among the other top finishes, sophomore AJ McKay Jr. placed third in the second flight of the men's triple jump with a 15.18m mark.
Next up for Coastal is a trip to Jacksonville, Fla. for the East Coast Relays at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on Apr. 26-27.
