Box Score KENNESAW, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina softball team run-ruled Kennesaw State, 15-7, on the final day of the I-75 Invitational.
The Chanticleers came out firing in the top of the first inning, taking a quick 4-0 lead off two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.
The Owls responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, scoring on a fielder's choice and an RBI single to make it 4-2.
Junior
Delaney Keith pushed the Chants ahead in the top of the second inning when she smashed her 10th home run of the year to put Coastal up 5-2.
In the top of the third, freshman
McKennah Metzger got in on the action, belting her first career home run to extend the lead to 6-2.
The Chants continued to use the long ball in the top of the fourth, as Riley Hood crushed a three-run homer to give Coastal a commanding 9-2 advantage.
Kennesaw State got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth when Ty Hardeman hit a two-run single to center field, cutting the deficit to 9-4.
Three consecutive singles loaded the bases for the Chants in the top of the fifth, and three runs came in on a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 12-4. In typical Coastal fashion,
Maddy Jennings then stepped up and smashed a bases-clearing home run, making it 15-4.
The Owls tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn't enough to stop the Chants.
Freshman
McKennah Metzger earned her first win in the circle, allowing four runs over 3.1 innings of work.
The Chanticleers return to St. John Stadium for a midweek matchup against Winthrop on Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. ET.
