NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team cruised to an 8-1 victory over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Tuesday evening in North Charleston, S.C.
The Chants' offense started strong, opening the game with three runs in the top of the first inning.
Delaney Keith and
Keirstin Roose each hit RBI doubles, while
McKennah Metzger ripped an RBI single to give Coastal a 3-0 lead.
Keith and Roose added three more runs in the top of the fifth, both delivering RBI singles to extend CCU's advantage to 6-0.
In the top of the sixth, Coastal tacked on two more insurance runs.
Clara Hudgens drove in one with a single, and
Ryanne Ellis recorded her first career RBI with a base hit to make it 8-0.
Charleston Southern denied the Chants their fourth straight shutout, pushing across a run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth to bring the final score to 8-1.
Abby Henderson (6-2) earned the win, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just two hits.
