CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team will open Sun Belt Conference play with a three-game series against the Troy Trojans, March 14-16, in Troy, Ala.
BEATING THE GAMECOCKS
- The Chanticleers defeated the No. 9 South Carolina Gamecocks, 5-3, in Columbia, S.C., on Wednesday evening, improving to 22-4 on the season.
- It marked Coastal's ninth-ever win against a top-25 team and its second this season following a 3-1 victory over No. 24 Kentucky on Feb. 21.
- The last time CCU recorded two ranked wins in a season was in 2004, when the Chants defeated No. 24 Oregon State on Feb. 20 and No. 14 Oregon on March 6.
- The victory was Coastal's second win against a top-10 opponent in program history. The first came in March 2020, when the Chants defeated the No. 8 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 7-1.
HISTORY AGAINST TROY
- Coastal has an 8-13 all-time record against Troy.
- Last time out, the Chants suffered a 16-0 loss in the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
- The Chants own a 4-6 record over the last 10 matchups and have been outscored 66-44.
- Coastal suffered a 2-1 series loss in its last three-game matchup against the Trojans after winning game one, 7-4.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Troy is 18-9 on the season and owns a 13-4 home record.
- McKinnon Howard leads the team with a .489 batting average, while Kayden Dunn tops the team with 21 RBIs and six home runs.
- The Trojans rank second in the Sun Belt with a .334 batting average, 184 runs, 241 hits, and 25 home runs.
- Troy ranks 12th in the NCAA with 62 stolen bases and 20th with 11 sacrifice flies this season.
- Alyssa Faircloth leads the pitching staff with an 8-3 record and 88 strikeouts, ranking 18th in the country.
