Coastal Softball Ready for Clemson Classic

CONWAY, S.C. -  The Coastal Carolina softball team is set to compete in the Clemson Classic from Feb. 20–22, where the Chanticleers will face Clemson, Baylor and Lipscomb over the three-day event.

Scouting the Opponent
Clemson
  • The Tigers are ranked No. 23 in the nation according to USA Softball. Clemson owns a 6-4 record on the season.
  • The Tigers are riding a two-game win streak after defeating Wichita State (Feb. 15) and BYU (Feb. 13).
  • Sarah Breaux leads the team with a .385 batting average. Mac Pavese paces the squad with 10 RBIs and a .615 slugging percentage.
Baylor
  • Baylor holds a 9-2 record on the season.
  • The Bears are on a four-game win streak after victories over Oregon State (Feb. 13), San Diego State (Feb. 13), Fordham (Feb. 14), and North Dakota (Feb. 14).
  • Amber Tover has been a force at the plate, driving in 16 RBIs this season, which ranks tied for 19th nationally. The senior also carries an eight-game hitting streak.
  • Peyton Tanner tops the pitching staff with a 3-1 record and a 2.63 ERA in the circle.
Lipscomb
  • Lipscomb enters with a 4-5 record on the year.
  • The Bisons fell to fellow Sun Belt foe Southern Miss, 5-4, on Feb. 7.
  • Macyn Kirby leads the team with a .600 batting average, while Brenna Sherman and Mallory Ogle share the team lead with seven RBIs.
  • Courtney Sauer owns a perfect 2-0 record in the circle, while Brooke Beam leads the staff with a 3.72 ERA and 13 strikeouts.
History Against
Clemson
  • This marks the first matchup between Clemson and CCU.
  • The Tigers are the third ACC opponent the Chants have faced this season.
Baylor
  • CCU owns a 0-1 all-time record against Baylor.
  • The teams first met in March 2008 when CCU suffered a 10-0 loss in five innings.
Lipscomb
  • Coastal holds a 3-4 all-time record against Lipscomb.
  • The Chants look to build on their three-game win streak against the Bisons.
  • All seven previous meetings took place at St. John Stadium, making this the first neutral-site matchup between the two teams.
  • CCU averages 4.86 runs per game against Lipscomb.
