CLEMSON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team went 1-1 on day two of the Clemson Classic. The Chants defeated Lipscomb 5-0 in game one before falling to Baylor 3-2.
Game One: Coastal 5, Lipscomb 0
The Chanticleers took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when freshman
Izzy Ramirez laced an RBI single to left-center field to score pinch runner
Emma Skovran from third base.
In the bottom of the fourth frame,
Hannah Bendle cracked an RBI double to left field to drive in
Brie Normandin and push the Chants ahead 2-0.
Coastal extended its lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating runs on a
Georgia Hood single and a Lipscomb error.
The Chants took care of business over the final two innings, turning a double play in the sixth to help secure the 5-0 victory.
Kate Ryan earned her first win of the season, pitching 5.0 shutout innings while allowing just four hits.
Game Two: Coastal 2, Baylor 3
The Chants applied pressure in the top of the first inning, loading the bases on a single and two walks, but the Bears escaped the jam to keep the score at 0-0.
Baylor responded by loading the bases in the bottom of the first, but the Chants turned a double play to get out of the inning unscathed.
The Bears got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second, scoring on a Coastal Carolina throwing error to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Baylor's Olivia Buettner and Abi Flores ripped RBI doubles to give the Bears a 3-0 advantage.
Coastal clawed one run back in the top of the fifth inning on a
Libby Pippin RBI single to narrow the gap to 3-1.
The Chants continued to fight in the top of the sixth when
Kelsey Sawvell hit a sacrifice fly to left field to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Baylor's Cambree Creager secured the final three outs to improve to 3-1 in the circle. She allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six in a complete-game effort.
