NEW ORLEANS – Coastal Carolina guard
Joshua Beadle was named the Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors, the league office announced Monday.
Beadle becomes the first player in program history to earn the award and just the second Chanticleer to receive first-team All-Sun Belt recognition.
The Columbia, S.C., native returned home after one season at Boston College and capped his collegiate journey with a career-best campaign.
He led the Chanticleers in scoring at 17.5 points per game, which ranked fifth in the Sun Belt. He led the league in field-goal attempts (451) and was second in field goals made (193). Beadle ranked seventh in the conference in free throws made (128) and attempted (162). He also ranked 11th in free-throw percentage (.790) and 12th in field-goal percentage (.428).
He scored in double figures in 25 games and recorded 12 20-point performances, including two 30-point outings. He set career highs in every statistical category and scored more than 540 points in 31 games after totaling 365 points across 96 career games entering the season.
Coastal Carolina finished the regular season tied for second place in the Sun Belt standings to earn the No. 3 seed and will open postseason play Saturday, March 7, in the championship quarterfinals at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla. Tip-off is set for approximately 9 p.m. ET against an opponent to be determined.
