HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Coastal Carolina softball team run-ruled James Madison, 12-3, in six innings on Saturday afternoon to secure the series over the Dukes.
 
After two scoreless innings, McKennah Metzger kicked off the scoring with a three-run home run over the center field wall to give the Chants a 3-0 lead.
 
The Dukes responded in the bottom of the frame when Bella Henzler hit an RBI single to right field to cut the deficit to 3-1.
 
Coastal's bats exploded in the top of the fourth inning, as the Chants plated seven runs. The inning was highlighted by two bases-loaded walks, a two-run single from Georgia Hood, and Metzger's second three-run home run of the game to extend the lead to 10-1.
 
In the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, the Dukes added one run in each frame on a groundout and a double to make the score 10-3.
 
The Chants put the game away in the top of the sixth inning when Hood and Metzger hit back-to-back home runs to secure the 12-3 run-rule victory.
 
Mackenzie Childers earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs on two hits over 4.2 innings of work.
