SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Coastal Carolina softball team was edged by the Texas State Bobcats, 5-4, on Friday evening in San Marcos, Texas.
The Chants came out of the gates hot, taking a 2-0 lead with the help of a
Kaelin Cash RBI double and a
McKennah Metzger RBI single in the opening inning.
Texas State responded in the bottom of the frame when Aiyana Coleman laced an RBI single to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Bobcats leveled the score in the bottom of the third inning, capitalizing on a CCU fielding miscue to make it 2-2.
Coastal regained control in the top of the fourth inning when
Izzy Ramirez delivered a sacrifice fly, and
McKennah Metzger later crossed the plate on a bases-loaded walk to push the Chants ahead 4-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Bobcats battled back as Sami Hood smashed a two-run home run over the left-field wall to even the score once again, this time at 4-4.
Texas State took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Harley Vestal scored on a wild pitch, which ultimately proved to be the difference in the 5-4 loss.
Reagan Troy dropped to 2-1 in the circle, allowing one run in 1.0 inning of work.
