Head coach Kristen Selvage named Michelle Gildea to the women’s lacrosse staff. She will have the primary responsibility of working with the midfielders.
“We expect Michelle to make our midfield more efficient in all aspects of the draw, the ride and the break,” Selvage said. “Michelle’s enthusiasm for the game and her drive to learn more while teaching others is contagious to those around her. After working camp with Michelle it was evident that she fit the model of our coaching philosophy here at Coastal.”
Gildea arrived on campus after a stay at former ASUN affiliate member Mercer, where she was the defensive coordinator. She developed the overall team defensive strategy and instructed the one-on-one defense skills. Other responsibilities included coordinating all team travel, the recruiting efforts for both the fall and summer, developing a comprehensive scouting report on all opponents, purchases and inventory of team equipment, and interacting with the club coaches to gauge player skills.
Prior to Mercer, Gildea was a 2017 team captain and starting defender on a top 5 ranked defensive unit. Throughout her career, Gildea saw action in 69 matches and started in 62. In the four years of her collegiate career, she tallied 44 points on 36 goals and eight assists while playing midfield.
Gildea graduated from Towson University in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management.
