CONWAY, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina University volleyball split two matches, dropping a 3-1 (26-28, 25-21, 24-26, 22-25) decision to Troy before toppling Chattanooga 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-16) in the final match of the Courtyard by Marriott Chanticleer Classic Saturday, Sept. 13 at Kimbel Arena.

Senior Kristin Wolf (Andover, Kan./Andover Central) had a match-high 10 kills, hitting .588, while freshman Kelsie Mauck (Muncie, Ind./Delta ) had her fifth double-digit assists match of the season with 25 against the Lady Mocs, as the two were named to the All-Tournament team.

"Kelsie did well connecting with her hitters and getting to some balls that were out of system," Head Coach Kristen Bauer said. "She worked through her errors and remained confident. With Kristin, we moved her from right side to left side and she stepped up her game with a solid performance all weekend."

In the early match, Coastal Carolina and Troy played a tight point-by-point contest to a 23-23 deadlock. The Trojans went up 26-25, but an attack error would even the game at 26-26. An attack error and a bad set by the Chanticleers handed their opponent the first set 28-26.

Tied at 20-20 in the second frame, junior Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) would take over, earning four kills for the Chanticleers as they took the set 25-21.

Coastal Carolina went ahead 19-16 off a freshman tandem, where Mauck and Erika Lightsey (Monument, Colo./Air Academy) connected for a kill. The Chanticleers had set point at 24-22, but an attack error on the Chants, two kills and a service ace gave the Trojans the next four points for a 26-24 third-set victory.

A three-point rally gave the Trojans a 22-19 advantage in the fourth set. The Chanticleers attempted a comeback with kills from sophomore Megan Bickford (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) and Nyhof, but came up short as the Trojans finished off the match with a 25-22 win in the frame.

Chelsy Kimes (Munster, Ind./Munster) had a match-high 17 kills, followed by Bickford and Nyhof who registered 13 and 11, respectively.

In the final match of the tournament, the Chanticleers never trailed. With a 17-13 lead in the first set, Coastal Carolina strung together a six-point rally to go up 23-13 on Chattanooga and would take the first set 25-16.

Coastal Carolina did much of the same in the second set, leading 15-7, another five-point run gave the Chanticleers a 20-7 advantage powered by kills from Brett Starbuck (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker), Kimes and Mauck and a service ace by junior Megan Pollard (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central).

With the score tied at 4-4, a kill by Amanda Russell (Liberty, Ind./Union County), two from Wolf and a service ace by Bickford, pushed the Chanticleers lead to 10-4. Coastal Carolina kept the on the attack using a Wolf kill to stretch the lead to 22-14, before a Nyhof kill put away the match 25-17.

The Chanticleers return to the court Friday, Sept. 19 at the South Carolina State Invitational, with their first match against the hosts S.C. State. First serve is slated for 2:30 p.m.
