CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-18) to Liberty on DIG Pink night at Kimbel Arena on Friday, Oct. 23. The Chants fell in a home Big South match for the first time this season. The Flames improved to 13-9 overall and 8-2 in the Big South while the Chanticleers fell to 13-10 and 6-3 in the Big South.

Karyl Bacon led the Flames on offense, registering 12 kills and 12 digs. Kelly Haseman finished with 17 digs, leading the defense while Chelaine McCarty added five blocks. Nicki Scripko tallied 11 kills and Courtney Boggs finished with 37 assists.
Coastal Carolina was held to a .211 team attack percentage compared to Liberty's team attack percentage of .310. One of the biggest differences between the two teams were the attack errors. The Flames registered eight attack errors in the match to the Chants' 18.
In set one, both teams came out strong, going head-to-head and forcing eight ties. At 13-all, Liberty went on a 6-1 run to put it ahead 19-14. The Chants tried to rally, but their offense could never get anything started, allowing the Flames to go on a 5-0 run at the end of the set and take the first set. Chelsy Kimes led with six kills for Coastal Carolina and Megan Pollard added eight digs.
Set two started similar to the first with both teams coming out hard and going point-for-point, forcing eight early ties. At 8-all, the Chants went on a 5-1 run to put them ahead 13-9. Coastal Carolina kept the lead for four more points before the Liberty offense went on the attack for a 7-0 run and took the lead at 20-18. The Chants would battle back to tie the set at 21-all and a kill by Kimes would put them up by one. It would be the last point of the set for the Chants as the Flames finished on a 4-0 run and led the match 2-0.
With the Coastal Carolina offense out of sync, Liberty went out to an early 8-3 lead in the third set. The Chants battled back to bring the set to within three at 12-9, but again the Liberty runs proved to be too much as the Flames build the lead back to seven at 17-10. Liberty's offense continued to control the match and the Flames took the third set and swept the Chanticleers. It was the first time Coastal Carolina had been swept since losing to Auburn this season on Sept. 11 at the Bash in the 'Boro tournament.
Coastal Carolina returns to the court on Saturday, Oct. 24 to face the Panthers of High Point at 2 p.m. at Kimbel Arena. Liberty travels to Winthrop to challenge the Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m.
