Volleyball Wins Third Consecutive Conference Match at Campbell

Buies Creek, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team won its third straight match against a Big South opponent on Saturday afternoon as the Chanticleers (13-4, 3-1) swept the Campbell Fighting Camels (10-8, 2-1) in three sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-14). It is the sixth shutout for the Chants this season, and snapped Campbell's five-match winning streak.

Freshman Leah Hardeman led all hitters with 19 kills and a .357 percentage, while also tallying eight digs and an ace. Sam Skryd continued to post impressive numbers as the senior setter provided 36 assists, a match-high, and 11 digs to complete the double-double.

Coastal's Eszter Nagy led all blockers as the junior sent back five Campbell attacks, while also registering an impressive .588 hitting percentage as 10 of her 17 attacks found Campbell hardwood.

Lian Bernett led all players with 19 digs, one short of her season-high, while Jenna Orner finished right on her heels with 18.

Jessica Groen and Alexis Hein led the Camels with eight digs apiece, while Rebecca Ramirez dished out 14 assists. Mary Crema led the way for Campbell with 17 digs.

Trailing 17-15 in the first set, the Chants used a five-point run on the serve of Miona Milovanovic to go up by three over Campbell. Coastal then took advantage of two Hardeman kills and three Campbell errors to finish off the set.

Hardeman proved to be the difference-maker for the Chants in the second set as the freshman put down nine kills and an ace. As a team, the Chants hit .368 in the second set compared to Campbell's .068.

Bernett and Hardeman teamed up to deliver a combined eight kills in the match's final set, with Bernett also leading the team with seven digs. The Chants once again held Campbell's hitting percentage below .100, while winning the battle at the net in total blocks 2-0.

For the match, the Chants outhit Campbell .308-.119, registered six blocks to Campbell's four, and won the battle in kills 45-34.

The Chants have one match remaining in their three-match road trip before returning to play at home in the The HTC Center. Coastal heads to Charleston Southern on Oct. 10 to take on the Bucs in a 7 pm match. The match will be streamed for free on the Big South Network.
