
Volleyball Blanks PC for First Big South Win

Coastal's win improves the Chants' overall record to 11-4 and drops Presbyterian to 6-8, while evening the conference records of each team at 1-1.
The Chants turned in a complete performance, outhitting PC .248 to -.066, and never allowing the Blue Hose more than 18 points in a set. Coastal also won the battle at the net, doubling PC's number of blocks 8-4.
Sophomore Annayka Legros led the Chants' attack with 10 kills and a .600 hitting percentage, while Leah Hardeman, Lian Bernett and Eszter Nagy each had seven kills. Sam Skryd provided a match-high 22 assists.
Hardeman and Nagy led the Chants' efforts at the net as each player blocked three PC attacks. Both Jenna Orner and Hardeman tallied double-digit kills.
Coastal held a wire-to-wire lead in the first set. PC kept the score close early, but Coastal held the Blue Hose to a .000 hitting percentage throughout the set, and easily pulled away. Led by five kills from Legros, and three apiece from Nagy and Bernett, the Chants closed out the first set by a comfortable 10-point margin.
The Chants looked even more dominant in the second set as five different players recorded multiple kills, and Coastal kept PC's hitting percentage below zero. After jumping out to a 19-11 lead, Coastal closed out the set on six straight serves from Bernett.
Skryd served the Chants to the first three points of the third set, and the Chants held the lead for the remainder of the game. Leading 6-5, Bernett served the Chants to the next four points to give Coastal a comfortable lead. Hardeman propelled the Chants further ahead with two consecutive blocks midway through the set, and the freshman closed out the match with back-to-back kills.
The Chants take to the road for their next three matches, beginning with a 7 pm match at High Point on Oct. 3. Coastal then travels to Campbell on Oct. 4 before ending the road trip at Charleston Southern on Oct. 10.
