Charleston Southern vs. Coastal Carolina | Oct. 9 | 7 p.m.
Series: Coastal leads 44-16
Site: The HTC Center
Live Stream: Big South Network
Live Stats:
Coastal's five straight wins marks the program's longest streak of the season, and the most since the Chants won seven straight down the final stretch of the 2014 season. The current streak is also the longest in the Big South, ahead of the three-match winning streaks of Liberty and Winthrop.
The Chants have jumped out to a 4-0 start against Big South opponents since beginning conference play on Sept. 25, surrendering just one set during that stretch. It is the program's best start to conference play since 2005, when the Chants won their first six conference matches.
The Chanticleers have won their last 10 matches at The HTC Center, and own a 29-7 all-time record in the building.
Coastal's offense is currently hitting at a .251 rate, good for first in the Big South and 49th in the NCAA. Leading the effort is middle blocker Eszter Nagy, who is hitting .432 to lead the conference and rank 11th in the nation. The senior is also putting down 2.38 kills per set and leads the Chants with 39 total blocks (0.78 per set).
Outside hitter Leah Hardeman is averaging 3.75 kills per set while hitting .258 in her second season in a Chanticleer uniform. In Coastal's last outing versus Campbell, Hardeman led all players with 13 kills to tally her 11th double figure performance in 16 matches.
The Chanticleer defense has been equally impressive, limiting its opponents to hitting just .164 for the season, 44th among all Division I programs.
Charleston Southern comes to Conway with a 4-14, 0-2 record, having lost the last two matches it played at Winthrop and Presbyterian. Due to weather conditions and flooding in the state of South Carolina, especially in Charleston, CSU was forced to postpone or cancel its three matches this past week. Friday's match will be the first for the Bucs in nearly two weeks, as their last match was played on Sept. 26.
