Coastal Hosts Virginia Tech in Home Opener

Feb. 20, 2015

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team opens its 2015 home schedule with a game against the Virginia Tech Hokies scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at the CCU Soccer Stadium.

The Soccer Stadium, which has served as the home of Coastal Carolina's men's and women's soccer programs since 2002, will also be the home field of the Chanticleers women's lacrosse team for the 2015 season. The Chants played their home games in Brooks Stadium, which is currently undergoing a turf renovation project, for each of the past two springs.

In a pair of previous meetings between the two teams, Virginia Tech holds a 2-0 advantage after defeating the Chanticleers 18-8 in Conway in 2013 and 18-9 in Blacksburg, Va., last season.

This year, though, the Chants and head coach Jamie Sellers are off to a 1-0 start for the first time in the program's three-year history after defeating Stetson 15-4 last Saturday in DeLand, Fla. Senior attack Jen Cosgrove led the way with a career-high four goals to go along with one assist. Additionally, senior midfielder Lily Yednock, who recorded two goals, two assists, three ground balls, three draw controls and four caused turnovers, was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week for her all-around performance against the Hatters. Junior midfielder Charlotte O'Leary also added a hat trick, while junior attack Sara Nolan and sophomore midfielder Alicia Geiter each added three points on two goals and one assist.

"We are excited to return home after securing our first win of the 2015 season," Sellers said. "With a full week of preparation under our belt, we are both energized and eager for the opportunity to take the field against Virginia Tech and demonstrate the potential this 2015 squad holds."

Through three games this season, Virginia Tech and fifth-year head coach Megan Burker are off to a 1-2 start after registering a win at Liberty to start the season followed by back-to-back losses versus James Madison and at No. 11 Ohio State. The Hokies have been led by senior attack Megan Will's 10 goals and 13 points, while j unior Jessi Thon has also put up consistent numbers as she leads the team with four assists to go along with three goals, four ground balls, four draw controls and one caused turnover. The Hokies are set to play at defending Big South Champion High Point on Friday at 4 p.m. before traveling further south.

Due to a high concentration of traffic with both baseball and softball also hosting tournaments this weekend, fans are encouraged to park in the lot on Highway 544 located just east of the TD Sports Complex. CCU Shuttles will be running throughout the day and are scheduled to pick up every 15 minutes. Parking and use of the shuttles are free.

Sunday's game will be streamed live on the Big South Network. You can also follow the live stats via .
