Final Stats

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team notched another win over Iowa, 6-5, but suffered an 8-4 defeat to Georgia Southern on the last day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational.

Coastal dropped to a 7-8 on the season with the split decision. The Chanticleers will return to action Friday, March 4th, as the team travels to Honolulu, Hawaii taking on the University of Hawaii and Stanford.

The Chanticleers had nine hits to score six runs that gave them their second win over Iowa, 6-5, in game one. Taty Forbes led the way with three hits while Morgan Noad and Alexis Alvino accounted for four of the five RBI's.

Iowa went up 2-0 in the top of the first off a fielding error. Coastal answered with a pair of the runs in the bottom of the first to tie it up at 2-2. Forbes singled up the middle then scored on Noad's homerun bomb over center field fence drove in Forbes.

In the bottom of the third and the bases loaded, the Chants scored two runs thanks to a two-run single to center field by Alvino. An Adriana Toro RBI-single to left field drove in Alvino for the 5-2 lead. Once again CCU had bases loaded in the fourth, the Chants scored one run on a bases loaded walk from Kelsey Dominik for a 6-2 difference.

The Hawkeyes answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth off of two RBI singles to close CCU's lead 6-4. Iowa then added one more run in the seventh off an RBI double but was not enough to take the lead.

Ashley Guillette and Mackenzie Conrad combined for six strikeouts and only allowed six hits with Guillette, now 3-2 on the season, notching the win. Conrad earned her first save of the year.

In game two Saturday, Coastal allowed six runs off of three hits to fall behind 6-0 in the top of the first to Georgia Southern.

The Eagles added two more runs in the seventh off an Alesha Mann homer to improve their lead to 8-0.

Coastal attempted a rally in the bottom of the seventh closing the lead to 8-4. Forbes had an RBI single up the middle driving in pinch runner, Cassidy Brzozowski. Noad hit a three-run homer to left field making it 8-4 but that is as close as the Chants could get.

Dominik suffered the loss, now 3-6 on the season, allowing three hits and six runs.
