Chants' Win Streak Snapped As They Fall In Three Sets At UTA

ARLINGTON, TEX - What started off to be a positive, quickly turned into a negative for the Chanticleers in Friday's match against the UTA Mavericks at College Park Center.  The Chants were defeated in three sets (22-25, 19-25, 23-25) and snapped their five match winning streak and now fall to 6-8 overall and 5-1 in the Sun Belt.

Coastal jumped out to their biggest lead in set one by the score of 15-11. Freshman Anett Nemeth and Sophomore Kyla Manning each had two kills apiece during that early run. The CCU squad continued to lead throughout set one until UTA tied the score at 20. Then from there the Mavericks controlled the set as they used a 5-2 run, include winning the last five points on four Chanticleer errors and win 25-22.

In set one were the Chants were only able to hit .077 with 11 kills, eight errors on 39 attempts.

The Mavericks had a lead throughout set two as there was only one tie between the two teams. UTA used a 16-6 run that included ten straight as they went onto win set two 25-19. Zhanelle Geathers led her team in the set with five kills on a .429 hitting percentage.

In set three, UTA jumped out to a 14-10 lead, but Coastal got back into the set as they rallied off five points with Anett Nemeth's two kills to take a 15-14 lead, the first since set one. Just as the

Chanticleers got back into the set, the Mavs defense thwarted CCU's offense and won the next nine of 11 points off five errors.

Arlington would go onto win the third set 25-23.

On the evening, neither team hit over .200 in the three sets. UTA won the hitting percentage battle .182 to .128.

Nemeth led the Chants with 12 kills, senior Sara Boothe had 30 assists and senior Sydney Alvis had 14 digs on the night.

Geathers led the Mavs with 11 kills, Alex Janak had 16 assists, and three players; Petra Manderson, Kylie Jedlicka, Madelyn St. Jermain had 12 digs.

This is the first loss in conference for the Chants since October 1, 2017 at home against Texas State.

The Chants will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to San Marcos to play Texas State with first serve at 7:30 p.m. est.
