CONWAY – Yazeed Matthews had a goal and two assists in leading Coastal Carolina to a 5-1 win over USC Upstate in men's soccer action.
 
The Chants found themselves behind after a Cam Philpott goal in the 14^th minute put the visitors up 1-0, but that would be the lone goal the Spartans would get on the night.
 
Tsiki Ntsabeleng evened the score in the 26^th minute when he took the first of Matthews' assists on a nice give-and-go in the box.
 
The Chants were able to take a 2-1 lead into halftime after Tyrone Mondi scored on a nice pass from Matthews in the 41^st minute.
 
It was all CCU in the second half as the home team scored three more goals. Matthews got in on the goal scoring act as he found the back of the net in the 53^rd minute. Ntsabeleng found the streaking Matthews down the middle of the field for the assist.
 
Ryan Willoughby scored his first goal of the season in the 62^nd minute with Jeranimo Power picking up the assist and Mondi scored his second goal of the night in the 64^th minute to complete the scoring. Paul Odendahl picked up the assist on the play.
 
CCU outshot the Spartans 20-12 with an 11-6 edge in shots on goal. The five goals, five assists, 20 shots and 11 shots on goal were all season-highs for the Chants.
 
Chris Dattalo played in goal for over 70 minutes and picked up five saves while on the field.
 
The Chants will be back in action when they open Sun Belt Conference action Saturday, Oct. 13 against Appalachian State. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
