Volleyball Sweeps Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team continued its roll through the early portion of its Sun Belt schedule with a three-set sweep (25-21, 25-18, 25-21) of Georgia State on Tuesday. The rare mid-week match was a make-up date for the originally scheduled match that was postponed during Hurricane Florence.

Tuesday's win was the fifth in a row for Coastal (6-7, 5-0), marking its longest streak of the season. Additionally, the 5-0 start to Coastal's Sun Belt schedule marks the program's best start in conference play since joining in 2016.

The Chants remain atop the Sun Belt East Division and carry their perfect 2018 conference record, and 19-match unbeaten streak in conference matches, to Texas this weekend. Coastal plays at UTA on Friday night, and Texas State on Saturday night.

Coastal had a pair of players register double-digit kills in the win. Kyla Manning landed 14 shots while hitting .225. Anett Nemeth, the defending Sun Belt Freshman of the Week, put down 12 kills and added seven digs.

Sara Boothe dished out 32 assists over three sets, and Sydney Alvis was the match's co-leader in digs with 15.

Coastal totaled nine blocks as a team, its second most this season. Kaylah House tallied a match-leading six blocks, and Nemeth tacked on four of her own.

The Chants wasted little time taking the first lead of the match, using a massive 12-3 run in the opening set en route to a 25-21 set win. Georgia State managed to trim the gap as the set wore on, even tying the game late at 21-21. Coastal, however, won four straight points to take the set and a 1-0 match lead.

The Chants started the second set hot as well, taking the first six points and forcing Georgia State into an early timeout. Coastal remained in front for the remainder of the frame, and once again closed a set with four straight points. The Chants hit .286 in the middle frame, their highest percentage of the match, while tallying four blocks.

Coastal finished the match in the third set strong. After trailing briefly midway through the set, the Chants ended the match on a 6-2 run. The set was the closest of the match with 12 ties and four lead changes. Manning and Nemeth had five kills each in the third.
