CLEMSON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss Saturday afternoon in its 2019 season opening match at Clemson's Duckworth Tennis Facility.
 
After taking a 1-0 lead following the doubles point, Clemson (4-0) won three of the next four points in singles play to clinch the match.
 
Coastal's (0-1) lone point was provided by Luiz Faria, who won in straight sets at No. 1 over Simon Baudry.
 
Clemson opened doubles with a No. 2 win against Faria and Pyry Hyrkkonen. The Chants evened the point at No. 1 as Joel Popov and Zak Talic won 7-5. The doubles point was won by Clemson at No. 3.
 
Clemson's Carlos Kelaidis claimed the first singles point at No. 5. Pierre-Louis Dodens then defeated Hyrkkonen at No. 4.
 
Following Faria's win at No. 1, Clemson finished the match on the third court where Teodor Giusca defeated Popov.
 
The No. 6 bout went unfinished, though Coastal's Daiki Tanabe won the first set.
 
Coastal returns to action at South Carolina State on Tuesday. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
