VMI RELAYS DAY ONE RESULTS (PDF)
LEXINGTON, VA. - On Friday, at day one of the VMI Winter Relays, the Coastal Carolina women's indoor track and field team earned two top-two finishes and another athlete is moving on to Saturday's finals to compete for another chance for top marks.
Joya Blackwell had the best performance for the Chanticleers as the sophomore took home first place in the high jump as she hit her peak of 1.60 meters on her fourth attempt of the day, just one-hundredth of meter shy of her personal best.
Junior
Erica Evans matched the 1.60 meters, also a one-hundredth of a meter of short her personal best and finished third as a result of matching the mark on her fifth attempt.
On the track,
Hesmari Coetzee ran the 400 meters in 56.62 earning her a second-place finish.
Evans and senior
Anacia Hines competed in the preliminaries and semifinal rounds of the 60-meter hurdles. Both Hines (8.96) and Evans (9.13) earned times to move them over into the semis. In the next round, Hines ran a personal best time of 8.77 giving her a first place finish in heat one and the best time overall, moving her on to Saturday's final. Evan's could not qualify as the multi-athlete finished with a time of 9.11, but still a personal best.
Senior
Karissa Lunn competed in both the prelims and semis of the 60-meter dash. Lunn's time of 7.86 advanced her to the next round where there she ran better with a time of 7.85. Lunn's time of 7.85 fell short of the events finals qualifier of 7.83.
Evans later in the day competed with teammate and thrower
Airika McCaskill in the shot put. The Atlanta native threw 8.61 meters, finishing in 41st The freshman, McCaskill tossed a distance of 9.64 meters, good for 33
rd.
