TAMPA, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team won the first two of its four duals in Tampa this weekend, defeating Jacksonville (3-2) and the University of Tampa (4-1) on Friday.
With the two wins Coastal improves 4-2 this season, and has now won each of its last three matches. The Chants play a second pair of opponents in Tampa on Saturday, facing UT Martin at 8 a.m. before taking on Eckerd at noon.
Match 1 – Jacksonville
Coastal picked up its first win of the day by sweeping courts three, four and five against Jacksonville.
Anaiah Boyer and
Lucy Campbell downed Kathryn Wristen and Alexis Lahner at No. 3, 21-9, 21-18.
Kate Federico and
Tanner Gauthier teamed up at No. 4 for a 21-16, 21-18 victory over Tori Reiser and Natalie Wehner
The No. 5 match went to
Anett Nemeth and Kaylin Eske, who bested Mallory Mattingly and Bailey Foy, 21-17, 21-14.
Jacksonville claimed points with three-set wins on courts one and two.
Match 2 – Tampa
The Chants kept rolling in their second match of the day, defeating Tampa 4-1. Coastal swept on court five while grinding out three-set wins on the first, second and third courts.
Eske and Nemeth starting things off with a 21-19, 21-12 at No. 5.
At No. 1, Hardeman and Alvis rallied from a 19-21 loss in the first to take the next two sets 21-15, 15-12.
The No. 2 match saw Ladewig/Djuric split the first two sets with Katie McKiel/Valerie Rosequist before winning the deciding set in extras, 17-15.
Coastal's third pairing of Campbell/Boyer also experienced a first-set loss before rebounding nicely, 21-15, 15-5, to take the point.
