Chanticleers and Seahawks In Action Tuesday

UNCW Program

CONWAY – Coastal Carolina softball looks to win their sixth game in eight April tries on Tuesday at home at St. John Stadium in a non-conference game versus the UNCW Seahawks.

The Chanticleers hold a 43-24 all-time advantage over the Seahawks, and the last time the two teams played was last season on April 10 as CCU defeated UNCW in Wilmington by the score of 2-1.

Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina goes into Tuesday night's game with a 31-12 record after they picked up a Sun Belt Conference series win last weekend as they took two of three from the Texas State Bobcats to move into fourth place.

The 30-win season is the 16th in Chanticleer history and the first time since 2017 (32-23).

Coastal improved their conference record to 11-7 with the series victory. The 11 wins mark the most single-season victories in their three-year history of conference play. The previous number was 10 in 2017 (10-16).

Sophomore Stavi Augur batted .333 (4-for-12) overall in four games this past week.  Augur had a big part of the series win over Texas State where she batted .400 (4-for-10) in the fourth spot in the Chanticleer order.

Augur was partly responsible for the game two win on Saturday as she had a fifth inning, two-out RBI single to tie the game at two runs all. Coastal went on to win as they added four runs in the fifth and then on Sunday, Augur put her team up 3-0 as she hit her seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the first. Later in the game, the Del Mar, Calif. native led off the fourth inning with a double that led to a six-run inning for the Chanticleers.

Texas State ace Leanna King had two-weekend starts and sophomore Samantha Sack had her number in both games. King went into Sunday's game-winning 10 consecutive decisions, but Sack helped Coastal end that streak with a double, and a single. In the two games against King, the Coastal Carolina catcher had four hits in five at-bats, with a home run, a double, scored one run, and had one RBI.

The Chanticleers hit six home runs over the weekend and are among the top home run hitting teams in the nation. Coastal Carolina sits seventh in the NCAA with 1.51 per game right behind #20 James Madison at 1.55.

Sophomore pitcher Kaitlin Beasley-Polko won her 20th game on Saturday as she improved her record to 20-7 as she became the first Chanticleer to achieve the mark since Kiana Quolas 26-5 record in 2014.

UNCW
The UNCW Seahawks come into Tuesday's midweek game as they lost six of their last seven and have an overall record of 22-21.

Last weekend, the Seahawks were swept by nationally ranked James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. The Dukes scored 33 runs in the three-game series and hit six home runs.

In the three losses, UNCW was only able to score two runs on seven hits.

Anna Hessenthaler picked two of the four Wilmington hits in game three against the Dukes.

Janel Gamache was the most productive batter in the series loss to JMU as went 3-for-8.

The UNCW pitching staff continues to rank in the Colonial Athletic Association's top 10 of various categories.

Hailey Lenderman ranks ninth with a 2.94 ERA, sixth with a .232 opponent batting average, eighth with 100 innings pitched, sixth with 57 strikeouts and eighth with eight wins.

Rhylee Pate ranks 10th with a .261 opponent batting average, ninth with 93 innings pitched, eighth with 55 strikeouts, fourth with 25 strikeouts looking, and seventh with nine wins.

Third Time The Charm?
Tuesday will mark the third time in over a month and a half that Coastal Carolina and UNCW will try to get the game played. Both dates of March 5 and April 2 were postponed due to weather-related conditions.

The first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. and can be followed by clicking goccusports.com.
