Jefferson Earns Sun Belt Track Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS, LA. - Coastal Carolina track and field athlete Melissa Jefferson earned the Sun Belt Women's Track Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Jefferson highlighted the Liberty Invitational for the Chanticleers as she produced two of the top 10 times in school history in the 60 and 200 meters.
Jefferson picked up a win in the 60-meter dash as she marked a time of 7.55, good for fifth all-time in school history. It was the first time since 2013 that a Coastal Carolina sprinter earned a win in the 60 meters since CCU Hall of Famer Erica Peake took the win at the Virginia Tech Qualifier. Later that day, the Georgetown, S.C., native had a strong showing in the 200 meters where she picked up a second-place finish with a time of 24.87, good for 10th all-time in CCU history.
Both of the freshman's times on Saturday rank her third and fifth respectively in the Sun Belt this season.
Jefferson's selection is the first Sun Belt Track Athlete of the Week since Aynslee van Graan earned the award in February of 2018.
