Chants Notch Two Second-Half Goals in Road Win at USA

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team used two second-half goals to defeat South Alabama 2-1 in an important Sun Belt Conference match at South Alabama on Friday night.

The Chants (5-2 / 5-2 SBC) trailed 1-0 at halftime after a goal from the Jaguars' (5-3 / 5-2 SBC) Olivia Wilkes in just the third minute of action. That would be the only goal USA would have on the night.

Coming out after halftime the Chants picked up the pace and it finally paid off in the 62nd minute when Loranna Austin was able to score an unassisted goal to knot the match at one.

The score stayed that way for 17 minutes until Sunny Sigurvinsdottier picked up the match-winner on another unassisted goal.

From there the Chants defense kept the home-standing Jags out of the net. Ky Hudson, the reigning Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, had another outstanding game in goal. The sophomore goalie had seven saves for the match as USA had 17 total shots with eight on goal.

The Chants took 12 shots with five of their attempts on goal.

The match was back-and-forth just like the first time the two teams met back on Sept. 25 in Conway. In that match, the Jaguars pulled out a tight 4-3 win on a penalty kick with just five minutes left in the match.

CCU will continue their current road trip with a Sunday afternoon match, Oct. 18, at Troy. The match is scheduled to begin at noon ET with the live stats available at www.goccusports.com.
