
Four Chants Named to 2010-19 Big South Men’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team

Big South Conference announced its 2010s All-Decade Team
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's outdoor track & field team had four former student-athletes in Alexander Hass, Reggie Nelson, Jacques Watson, and Jason Flanagan named to the Big South Conference's 2010-19 Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team presented by Hercules Tires, the league office announced on Tuesday.

The league's All-Decade Teams were first unveiled as part of the Big South's 30th Anniversary celebration in 2013-14 to recognize the student-athletes and coaches who excelled in their respective sport in each decade since the conference's founding in 1983.

Haas was a five-time Big South Champion and a seven-time All-Big South performer over his career at CCU. He was the Big South individual champion in the 400-meters and 4x100-meter relay in 2014 and in the 200-meters, 4x100-meter relay, and 4x400-meter relay in 2015. He earned all-conference honors in the 200-meters, 400-meters, and the 4x100-meter relay in both 2014 and 2015, while also earning All-Big South accolades in the 4x400-meter relay in 2015.

Nelson was a two-time honorable mention All-American in the high jump in both 2014 and 2015 and was named the 2014 Big South Most Outstanding Field Performer following the Big South championship meet. A two-time Big South high jump champion, winning the event back-to-back years in 2014 and 2015, Nelson was also named the Big South Field Athlete of the Year in 2015. He was a four-time all-conference performer, earning the conference accolade three times in the high jump and once in the long jump.

Watson was a three-time Big South Champion, winning the high jump event in 2008, 2010, and 2011, and a four-time all-conference performer in the same event in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. The two-time Big South Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, Watson's mark of 2.25-meters (7-04.50) in the high jump at the Florida Relays in 2010 is still the Big South Conference record today.

Flanagan, who still holds the Big South and CCU school-record in the javelin throw at 73.01 meters (239-06), was a second-team All-American in the javelin in 2012. He was a two-time Big South Champion in the event, taking first-place in both 2010 and 2012. A three-time All-Big South performer (2010, 2011, and 2012), he placed 16th at the 2012 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship in the javelin throw with a mark of 68.70 meters (225-04).

Coastal Carolina had a total of three student-athletes named to the 1994-99 Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team in Finbarr Egan (Big South Champion, four-time all-conference – 5,000-meters, 3,000-meter steeplechase), Karl Walsh (two-time Big South Champion, three-time all-conference – 5,000-meters, 10,000-meters), and Tyler McCart (five-time Big South Champion, six-time all-conference – hammer, shot put).

The Chanticleers also had six student-athletes earn a spot on the 2000-09 Big South Men's Outdoor Track and Field All-Decade Team. Runners Kendall White (two-time Big South Champion, four-time all-conference – 400-meter hurdles) and Terah Kipchiris (four-time Big South Champion, six-time all-conference – 3,000-meter steeplechase, 5,000-meters, 10,000-meters) were joined on the team by jumpers Mark Johnson (All-American, four-time Big South Champion, four-time all-conference – pole vault) and Taylor McFadden (two-time Big South Champion, three-time all-conference – triple jump, high jump), as well as throwers Thomas Jordan (All-American, four-time Big South Champion, four-time all-conference – javelin), and Nick Kenworthy (three-time Big South Champion, four-time all-conference – discus, hammer).

A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.Â

About the Big South All-Decade Teams
Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team candidates were determined based on being at least one of the following:
1) Was a multiple all-conference honoree;
2) Was named an All-American;
3) Is a member of the Big South Conference Hall of Fame;
4) Student-athletes must be a college graduate or left their respective institution in good academic standing;
5) Won a conference championship as a coach and/or was voted conference Coach of the Year;
6) Players of the Year, Tournament MVPs, and first-team all-conference honorees will be among the candidate pool for the 2010-19 All-Decade Teams.Â

Candidates that participated in two different decades were placed in a specific decade based on consultation from member institutions. Member institutions also had final determination in regards to the inclusion of student-athletes and coaches.
