Cross Country to Compete Friday at the GATA Classic

Chanticleers will host the Chanticleer Challenge on Oct. 16
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's and women's cross country teams will have a handful of individuals compete at the GATA Classic this Friday, Sept. 25, at the Bulloch Disc Golf course in Statesboro, Ga.
The meet will consist of runners from Coastal, Central Georgia Tech, and host Georgia Southern. The women's 5K race will begin at 5 p.m. ET with the men's 8K meet set for a 5:30 p.m. ET start.
The Chants will have three student-athletes compete on the women's side in freshmen Katie Herron and Sydney Swanker, who both will be making their CCU debut, and sophomore Ashley Rulison.
One of the top returners this season, Rulison competed in six meets last season for CCU, where she was the second Chanticleer finisher in all six meets. She posted a pair of third-place finishes a year ago and recorded a season-best time of 18:55.9 in the 5K at the Winthrop/Adidas Cross Country Invitational.
On the men's side, the Chants will send out sophomore Monroe Thompkins and freshman Brad Wiggins.
As a freshman last season, Thompkins competed in five events and had a personal-best time of 17:42.3 in the 5K and 29:22.0 in the 8K.
