Chants Fall at Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina men's basketball fell 71-68 in a back-and-forth Sun Belt Conference road tussle with Georgia State Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.

Deanthony Tipler led all scorers with 21 points on seven three-point field goals, but it was not enough as the Chants could not finish the game.

CCU (9-3 / 3-2 SBC) held a 68-63 lead with a minute to go, but two turnovers and two missed shots led to eight consecutive points for the Panthers as they came-from-behind for the win.

It was a run at the end of the half and the run at the end of the game which saw Georgia State outscore CCU 17-0 during those two runs that turned out to be the difference.

With CCU leading 35-27 with 1:25 left in the opening 20 minutes Georgia State took advantage of three straight turnovers and hit three consecutive three-pointers to lead 36-35 at halftime, and the run at the end of the game finished off the Chants.

DeVante' Jones scored 16 points and Essam Mostafa added 11 while the Chants finished the game shooting 40 percent from the field. The Chants hit 10 of their 23 three-point field goals for 44 percent and hit 10 of their 11 free throws.

Jones led the Chants with seven rebounds and Ebrima Dibba had a team-high four assists and four steals as the Chants had 12 steals in the game.

GSU (8-2 / 2-1 SBC) was led in scoring by Corey Allen's 15 points. Justin Roberts and Collin Moore scored 14 each and Jalen Thomas added 12.

For the first time this season CCU was out rebounded and GSU won that battle 42-32 with GSU's Thomas pulling down a game-high eight.

The Chants will be back home next weekend to host Troy on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23 at the HTC Center.
