Coastal Indoor T&F to Compete at Liberty Elite Invitational

Chanticleers will compete in the three-day event in Lynchburg, Va.
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team will look to continue its hot start to the 2021 season this week, Jan. 21-23, at Liberty Elite Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
The Chanticleers had a great start to the season last weekend at the Gamecock Opener as finished with a total of 28 top-10 finishes, including a pair of wins by freshman Sydney Swanker in the 3000-meters and a Jermaisha Arnold in the 400-meter run.
CCU also has several student-athletes ranked in the top-10 in the Sun Belt Conference thus far this season heading into action this week.
Sophomore Melissa Jefferson has the fastest time in the conference this season in both the 60-meters at 7.49 and the 200-meters at 24.80, while freshman Kayla Sweeney is ninth in the 60-meters with her time of 7.77 and fifth in the 200-meters with a mark of 25.43.
Arnold not only has the top time in the Sun Belt in the 400-meters at 54.30 but also had the third-best finish in the 200-meters at 24.97, just in front of classmate Lauren Gordon in fourth at 25.37 and sixth in the 400 at 58.56.
Fellow freshman Amaryah White ranks third overall in the Sun Belt in the 400-meters with her time of 57.69, while sophomore Tairney Pepper is ninth overall in the 400-meters with her season-best time of 58.75.
First-year Chant Shani'a Bellamy is eighth in the league in the 200-meters with a time of 24.48, while fellow newcomer Sydney Clemens is sixth overall in the conference in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.81.
In the field events, Kayla Ulmer sits in fifth overall in the Sun Belt in the triple jump with a distance of 11.18 meters, while teammate Kadasia Evans ranks eighth in the high jump having cleared the bar at 1.60 meters last weekend.
The three-day event will kick-off with the pentathlon and heptathlon events on Thursday, Jan. 21, and will continue with the pole vault, weight throw, long jump, 200-meter dash, 5000-meter run, and 4x800-meter relay on Friday, Jan. 22.
Saturday, Jan. 23, will be a full day of action to wrap up the invitational with the high jump, shot put, triple jump, and pole vault field events taking place along with the 60-meter hurdles, 60-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 500-meter dash, 800-meter run, 1000-meter run, 3000-meter run, 1-mile run, and the 4x400-meter relay events on the track.
